Time Capsules Buried in New Los Gatos St. Mary's Junior High School

New campus on Lyndon Avenue will be completed in spring of 2014.

Time capsules were buried this month in the Abby Sobrato Junior High School building under construction on the Los Gatos St. Mary's School campus, 30 Lyndon Ave.

St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception pastor Father Rick Rodoni, junior high school principal Karen Larson and St. Mary's School President Sister Nicki Thomas placed the boxes containing a historic cache of information about the school in the new walls Friday, Nov. 15.

Each St. Mary's school class, from Kindergarten to eighth grade, created its own unique time capsule containing letters, artwork, books, and other memorabilia, according to school officials. The school has 296 students.

No specific date was set for the opening of the time capsules.

Groundbreaking on the new junior high school building began in May 2013 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2014.

The new building will include computer and science labs, breakout rooms, library, dual purpose art/Spanish room and classrooms.

The new edifice will replace the current junior high building, which is more than 50 years old. Removal of the latter will create more playground space, school officials added.

There is a separate elementary school building on the property that will remain, but will most likely be remodeled in the future as funding becomes available.
