Los Gatos Palacio Restaurant to Get More Outdoor Seating

Alcohol sales will be allowed outside historic Coggeshall Mansion until 10 p.m.

Los Gatos Palacio restaurant, 115 No. Santa Cruz Ave., received approval this week from the Los Gatos Town Council to relocate 14 of its  inside seats outdoors with alcohol sales allowed until 10 p.m.

By a 4-0 vote, with Councilwoman Barbara Spector recusing herself as her law firm of Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel represents the business' owners, the Council amended the restaurant's conditional-use permit as recommended by town planners.

The restaurant, located inside the historic Coggeshall Mansion, opened in June of 2011 specializing in Latin American, Mexican and Spanish/Basque food.

Palacio owner Dean Devincenzi appeared briefly before the government body Monday evening to ask for the modifications of the business' permit since he said outdoor seating is most desirable by his customers.

"Everybody wants to sit outside," he said. "It's been pretty popular ... The porch area is also very desirable."

The new seating area is located in the paved side courtyard of the gorgeous Victorian mansion. Patrons will be allowed to wait on the restaurant's porch for seating, which was not previously permitted.

The Coggeshall Mansion was built in 1891 and was converted to a mortuary in 1920, which operated until 1974. It received historic landmark designation in 1975 and its use was changed to a restaurant in 1976.
