Week Ahead: Los Gatos Rotary Crabfest Tickets on Sale, Art Exhibits

Produced by the Addison Penzak Jewish Community Center, South Bay Teen Idol is an "American Idol" style competition that crowns the best teenage singer in Santa Clara County. Teenage vocalists in 8th-12th grades are eligible to compete. Based on auditions, judges select 20 singers to advance to the semifinals competition in February, at which time 10 singers are chosen to advance to the finals in March. Contestants can choose either a video or a live audition. Live auditions are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 on a first-come, first-served basis at the JCC, 14855 Oka Road. LOS GATOS SARATOGA RECREATION 55-PLUS PROGRAM CLASS 'SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?'

Los Gatos Saratoga Recreation's 55-Plus program offers a life planning class at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Adult Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. The class will be taught by Brian Schwatka and its cost is $42. If you're a homeowner and you're considering a move, there are many decisions that you will need to make. "Should you stay or should you go?" will teach how to make the best decisions for the future. Topics covered include in-home care, reverse mortgages, trusts, wills, taxes, financial and estate planning, repairing and upgrading your home, aging in place, real estate 101, downsizing and moving, estate sales, pros and cons of senior communities and more. LOS GATOS ROTARY CLUB CRABFEST AND AUCTION

The Rotary Club of Los Gatos invites the community to attend its annual Crabfest and Auction at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at St. Mary's Church, 219 Bean Ave. in Los Gatos. Tickets are $50 per person, $20 for youth 12 and under and include all-you-can eat fresh cold crab, Billy's Boston clam chowder, farmers' market salad, garlic bread, pasta and coffee and dessert. Proceeds benefit St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Los Gatos, which helps the homeless, Los Gatos High School student activities, Boy Scout Troop 2 and the Rotary Club of Los Gatos Charities Foundation. The History Museum of Los Gatosat Forbes Mill, 75 Church St., presents "American Bohemia: The Cats Estate in Los Gatos" noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Exhibit highlights include the showing of home movies of famous American writer and lawyer C.E.S. The Town of Los Gatos and the Museums of Los Gatos have partnered on a new exhibit showcasing renowned Bay Area artists' works of part of the program through Jan. 30, 2014. The program, which has been going on for 13 years, normally presents four exhibits in the chambers, 110 E. Main St., with an evening artist reception being held for each show. BACKWARD IS FORWARD EXHIBIT AT LOS GATOS ART MUSEUM

The Museums of Los Gatos presents Backward is Forward: Layer and Impact in Printmaking exhibit through Jan. 12, 2014 at the Art Museum of Los Gatos, 4 Tait Ave. The show features prints by Enrique Chagoya, Hung Liu, Sam Francis, David Gilhooly, Gregory Edwards, Michael Mazur, Frank Lobdell, Andrew Romanoff, Inez Storer, Nathan Oliveira, Erik Bakke, Joan Miro, Marguerite Saegesser, Ruth Wall, Kathy Aoki, Vicky M. Chen, Tom Killion, Jessica Dunne, and Robin McCloskey.
