March Madness Hits Los Gatos' Sports Bars, Restaurants

Beer, wings and slam dunks! It's tournament time -- here's where to catch all the games.

Don't have enough TV screens to keep up with your March Madness bracket? There are plenty of viewing options in and around Los gatos.

354 N Santa Cruz Ave, will be showing all the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship basketball games starting Thursday, when the 64 teams going into the tournament will play during the first round.

Customers love to to fill out a bracket which will have all 64 teams and the 32 games for the first round. They'll try to predict who they think will win. That will continue on through the two-week tournament as every round progresses, explained Double D's manager Greg Rounbanis.

Every time a participant gets a team right and they're in a pool with 10 or 15 of their friends filling out brackets, the person who comes out with the most points at the end of the tournament will win the pool, with prizes ranging from trips to Cabo San Lucas to tickets to Giants games, he said.

Double D's was named the best sports bar in town last year during Los Gatos Patch Readers' Choice program.

Opened in 1996 and owned by Dean and Darin Devincenzi, known as "The Double D Brothers," Double D's has become a tradition for watching Saturday and Sunday morning football, Sharks, Warriors, Giants, A's, 49ers, Raiders, SJ Earthquakes and March Madness.

The restaurant and bar has DirecTV sports packages allowing customers access to all the games, full bar, pool room, state of the art touch-screen jukebox, two 65" big screens and 20 flat screens.

"It's the idea of celebrating the brackets. Everyone gets really excited about all the different games," said Rounbanis. "It's a certain feeling that you really can't replicate at any other time during the year. We look forward to it every year."

Rounbanis said customers come in just for the games because they want to see them all. "It's so much fun. It's a blast. I've done it now for nine years," he said.

Double D's will be offering customers a "Beer Madness" special, which will consist of changing jockey boxes with different Sierra Nevada labels of beer every time the games change, Rounbanis said.
