Christine Kennedy Rocks the Boston Marathon

Nearly 24,000 marathoners finished the storied Boston Marathon on Monday, including more than a dozen Los Gatos residents.

• , 56, finished in two hours, 56 minutes and 17 seconds, or 2:56:17. She placed first in the 55-59 women's age group division. 

This was Kennedy's third Boston Marathon. Last year, she won the women's 50-54 age group at 2:57:19, which was 13 minutes ahead of the second-place finisher.

It was also better than the winner of the 50-54 age group and was the equivalent of second place in the 45-49 age group. Her achievement won her 10th place among all the 2010 Master women. 

Kennedy is co-owner ofin Los Gatos and is a mentor to many women runners in the South Bay. In December 2010, she started a free beginners running group that meets at 7 a.m. every Wednesday. The group trains on the .

The world's oldest marathon, the Boston Marathon is a prestigious event that runners spend months or even years training for, just to meet the qualifying standards for the grueling 26.2-mile journey.

• Kaela E. Hoch, 22, official time was 3:41:00.
• Linda Rosenband, 35, ran 3:41:20.
• Jennifer Bryan, 38, finished in 3:53:13.
• Kent Goheen, 68, clocked 4:17:32.
• Michelle R. Ridder, 44, came across the finish line in 4:23:34.
• Christopher J. Herder, 50, completed the race in 5:03:22.
