What to Expect from Tonight's School Board Meeting

Los Gatos Union School District trustees will hear from architectural firms, results from annual parent/teacher survey and plan to cut $1.2 million from 2012-13 fiscal-year budget.

The Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the 's multi-purpose room, 17770 Daves Ave.

The open meeting will be preceded by a closed session, 5:05-6:30 p.m., to discuss the following: 

  • Labor negotiators Marla Rodriguez and LGUSD Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Leslie Paulides will give an update regarding progress made with district officials and representatives from the Los Gatos Elementary Teachers Association and the Los Gatos Union Classified Employees Association. 

On the consent agenda, which allows trustees to approve items without public comment, the following will be voted on:

  • Various service contracts such as those for American Eagle Enterprises for materials, labor and service to inspect and repair 's gym bleachers, boiler system and labor and materials to install irrigation for new trees along Nino Avenue for Fisher Middle School, among others.
  • Resolution on LGUSD Board of Education elections scheduled for Nov. 6, 2012. The candidate filing period is July 16 through Aug. 10.
  • Redevelopment Agency Oversight Board appointment and a successor agency and oversight board is required. In the past, the LGUSD operated under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Los Gatos RDA, receiving approximately $1.5 million annually because of the agreement.
  • Letter of verification of schools serving
  • Amendments to school accountability report cards for the 2011-12 school year to include data from the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years as mandated by the state. The SARCs, as they're commonly called, are for Blossom Hill, Daves Avenue, Lexington, Louise Van Meter and Raymond J. Fisher Middle schools.
  • First apportionment enrollment report, which shows the LGUSD has 3,104 students, an increase of 64 students for the same time period in the 2010-11 school year.
  • bequest and service contract for March 1 through June 7, 2012 for R. J. Fisher Middle School mental health services in the amount of $12,500. The contract is a partnership between Fisher Middle School, Lions Club of Los Gatos and the district.

At 6:30 p.m., the public discussion/action portion of the meeting will begin and trustees will consider the following:

  • There will be 30-minute presentations made by HMC Architects, CODY ANDERSON WASNEY Architects and BFGC-IBI Group regarding proposals for the One of these three firms will be chosen to provide planning services for the master plan which will guide facilities and improvements in the district for the next 10 years. These three presentations are for information only. They will be discussed and a contract will be awarded at the March 6, 2012 regular board meeting. The work will begin in April 2012. 
  • Bitsey Stark, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, will present the annual Parent and Teacher Survey results.
