Los Gatos Patch Whiz Kid of the Week—Marion Wellington

This accomplished young woman serves as Los Gatos High School's new Associated Student Body president.

Marion Wellington, age 17

In addition to being the current ASB president at and student representative on theBoard of Education, Marion is a newscaster on the “News at Noon” at and works atin downtown Los Gatos. In her spare time, Marion sings, acts, produces, and directs both onstage and off.

“Hmm … the key to awesomeness …” Marion muses over the question, “I think the best way to awesomeness is to pursue your passions and strive for happiness."

Marion practices what she preaches, according to mom Chris Knudsen Wellington.

Throughout her life, she has jumped into extra-curriculars with zeal. As a 12-year veteran Girl Scout, Marion has worked on and organized many community service projects. That leadership experience led her to participate in school government.

As a fifth-grader, she was president of and then as an eighth-grader she served as president of

Marion likes to be involved, whether in her community or onstage. She's participated in more than 35 theatre productions at many different venues including Children’s Musical Theatre San Jose, Theatre in the Mountains, LGHS, and All About Theater in Santa Cruz. The commitment, teamwork, and individuality inherent in theatre has helped Marion embrace her originality and appreciate the same in others.

“I love performing. Going onstage and becoming another person helps you realize who you truly are,” Marion says. “I sure know who I am.”
