Domestic Violence Conference

Santa Clara County's Domestic Violence Council Annual Conference will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at the Santa Clara Marriot. 

The Council puts on a conference every year in October is honor of DV Awareness Month. 

This is an opportunity to provide continuing education for local service providers such as DV shelter staff and advocates, mental health professionals, law enforcement members, Court staff and Judges, attorneys, and medical personnel.

The 18th Annual Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council Conference explores the cutting-edge topic of the role of men in domestic violence prevention. The conference spotlights programs and interventions that promote non- violence, healthy relationships, the importance of fatherhood, men as leaders and coaches, and how to engage men in order to break the cycle of violence. Nationally recognized experts Lundy Bancroft and Jerry Tello will be featured in keynote presentations.

Conference sessions will explore:

• the importance of fathers in the lives of children and how abuse compromises healthy parenting

• the role of culture and community in shaping positive models of masculinity and relationships

• techniques that are most effective for remediating abusive behavior and promising practices that promote non-violence

• the role our court systems and service providers play in connecting men to the services and encouraging greater cooperation from men, as fathers and partners

• how the DV community can engage men as partners in the movement to eradicate domestic violence
