Despite the still-struggling economy, audio books have grown in popularity and are selling well, according to the Audio Publishers Association.

1. The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett               

Set in twelfth-century England, this epic of kings and peasants juxtaposes the building of a magnificent church with the violence and treachery that often characterized the Middle Ages.

3. Unbroken: a World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, Laura Hillenbrand

Relates the story of a U.S. airman who survived when his bomber crashed into the sea during World War II, spent forty-seven days adrift in the ocean before being rescued by the Japanese Navy, and was held as a prisoner until the end of the war.

4. State of Wonder, Ann Patchett

Researcher Marina Singh is sent by her boss at Vogel, a drug manufacturer, to the jungles of Brazil following the death of a co-worker. It is there that the company is looking into a miracle drug based on a tree bark used by a native tribe. Upon her arrival, Marina must find out the circumstances of her colleague's death, as well as find out why work has slowed to a crawl on the drug.

Follows the life of Ernest Hemingway's first wife, Hadley, as she navigates 1920s Paris.                 

6. The History of World Literature, Grant Voth

7. Now You See Her: A Novel, Joy Fielding

Marcy Taggart's daughter, Devon, drowned in an accident or perhaps as a suicide, but since the body was never recovered, Marcy holds on to hope that Devon chose to disappear. In the years following her daughter's death, Marcy's marriage falls apart. She decides to take the trip to Ireland on her own that had been planned to celebrate her 25th wedding anniversary. 9. James Earl Jones Reads the Bible, James Earl Jones

Actor/narrator James Earl Jones reads from the New Testament of the King James Version of the Bible.                 

10. Inside Scientology, Janet Reitman

Reitman offers the first full, journalistic history of the Church of Scientology, in an even-handed account that at last establishes the astonishing truth about the controversial religion. She traces Scientology's development from the birth of Dianetics through to the present day.
