Fallen Soldier's Body Escorted to Saratoga Funeral

After services at 1 p.m., procession will travel back to Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.

The San Jose police and fire departments and other local law enforcement plan to escort the funeral procession for Sean Walsh, a 21-year-old California National Guard soldier from San Jose killed on Nov. 16 while serving in Afghanistan.

The escort will travel beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m. from Oak Hill Memorial Park at 300 Curtner Ave. in San Jose to St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 13601 Saratoga Ave. in Saratoga.

The escort is expected to travel west on Curtner Avenue, south on state Highway 87, north on state Highway 85, and west on Saratoga Avenue.

According to a San Jose Fire Department spokesman, the service at the church is expected to last approximately one hour and will travel the reverse route from the church to the cemetery at about 2:30 p.m.

Killed in action on Nov. 16, Walsh served with California Army National Guardsman in Khost Province Afghanistan.

His funeral service today at 1 p.m. is open to the public at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., followed by a graveside memorial at Oak Hill Funeral Home in San Jose.
