5 Things You Need to Know Today, Sept. 13

If you've never attended a high school board of education meeting, there's one tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Saratoga High School.

1. A formal ceremony "honoring the impact" of 9/11 will take place Tuesday, 2:15-3:30 p.m., at West Valley College's Fox Center, Room 120, 14000 Fruitvale Ave., in Saratoga, featuring Zahra Billoo, a member of the Council for American Islamic Relations, and Karen Wallace, the college chaplain.

2. Trustees for the  will meet at 6:30 p.m., tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the Saratoga High School library, 20300 Herriman Ave., in Saratoga. To see the agenda, click here. The meeting will be preceded by a 5 p.m. ceremony in recognition of the naming of the small theater at Saratoga High School as the “Thermond Drama Center” in acknowledgement of the work of volunteer and Saratoga resident Cathie (Catherine) Thermond, a dedicated spirit behind the drama program at Saratoga High. 3.  presents Crossing Boundaries, an exhibition featuring the paintings of Ming Jing (Mike) Wang and the sculptures of Kristin Lindseth Rivera through Thursday, at 4 Tait Ave. at West Main Street. 4. Volunteer to serve on Los Gatos' boards, commissions and committees. The town has openings on the Arts and Culture Commission, Building Board of Appeals, Community and Senior Services Commission, General Plan Committee, Historic Preservation Committee, Library Board, Parks Commission, Personnel Board and Transportation and Parking Commission. 5. El Camino Hospital Los Gatos will present a free Men's Health Fair 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 815 Pollard Road. Participants will be able to speak to physician specialists in the areas of benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, internal medicine, cardiology, gastrointestinal issues, sleep disorder, and orthopedics. They will also see robotic demonstrations such as the hospital's "Green Light Laser" and da Vinci robot. In addition, men who have signed up for the hospital's free two-part prostate screening will receive their followup exam at this event. Details: 408-378-6131.
