Top 10 Los Gatos Crime Stories of 2011

With some help from the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, we offer our top 10 crime stories of the year.

1. Murder-Suicide Victims: Local Developer and Cancer Survivor Son, July 29, 2011: Two bodies are found the evening of July 27 in a home located on the 14,000 block of Clara Street in unincorporated Los Gatos and are identified as those of prominent local developer Imad Ed Daou, 50, and son Andrew Daou, 22, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Troy Smith. A five shot .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, registered to Imad Ed Daou, was recovered at the scene in his possession. The identities of the pair are released July 29, two days after a neighbor discovered them. Smith rules the case is a murder-suicide.

2. Police Arrest Registered Sex Offender, Dec. 21, 2011: Richard "Ricardo" Williams, a registered sex offender, is arrested Nov. 28 after police allege he has molested several local boys. He's charged with annoying or molesting a child under 18 and working unaccompanied with minor children in violation of his parole. Police began investigating Williams in November of 2010 after receiving information that several teenage boys had been harassed at Los Gatos Health and Fitness Club on Main Street, said Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Sgt. Kerry Harris. According to police, Williams hired the youth to work for him, washing cars in the athletic club parking lot. He was not an employee of the club.

4. Town Cops Arrest Man in Connection With 7 South Bay Bank Robberies, April 23, 2011: Leroy Wierzchowicz is suspected of robbing seven banks in the South Bay. He's arrested April 15 at his home on Highland Court in San Jose, where detectives found numerous items related to several robberies, according to police. Two of the seven banks hit in February are the Wells Fargo and Comerica banks, located on Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos.

5. Man Arrested for Bomb Threat and Robbery, June 7, 2011: Vadim Liotveyzen, a 28-year-old man whose mother lives in Los Gatos, was arrested and charged with robbery, attempted robbery, extortion and making a bomb threat June 6, after a police investigation linked him to a series of bomb threats and attempted robberies at two banks.

6. Police Arrest Six Car Burglar Suspects, Dec. 18, 2011: In November and early December local cops arrest the suspected burglars thanks to residents' tips and—in one incident— intervention fromThe suspects, all from San Jose, were involved in three separate incidents, two in November and one on Dec. 3. Two of the alleged crimes occurred in Los Gatos and one in Monte Sereno, according to police. One additional suspect remained at large. All are charged with possession of stolen property and one suspect is facing a slew of other charges such violation of probation, resisting arrest, possession of stolen mail, and possession of burglary tools.

7. Residential Burglary on Casitas Boulevard, Oct. 10, 2011: An alert neighbor saw a possible suspect leaving the residence. The suspect was later identified and a search of her residence was conducted. Several items from the burglary were recovered. The suspect was arrested for burglary and possession of stolen property.

8. Police Arrest Los Gatos Man For Alleged Teen Assault, Oct. 20, 2011: Thad Ryan Richey, 31, is arrested after he's suspeced of assaulting a local teenager so badly he landed in the hospital. The incident is said to have occurred the evening of Oct. 7, at about 8 p.m., when the youth, accompanied by other teenagers, accidentally knocked on a residence on Oak Hill Way near Jackson Street and the man answered the door with a pistol and proceeded to strike the youth on the back of the head with it.

9. Injury Hit and Run Accident, Aug. 23, 2011: An injury hit-and-run accident occurred in Los Gatos at the intersection of Lark Avenue and Winchester Boulevard. A female suspect crashed a stolen vehicle into two others and fled the scene. The vehicle turns out to be stolen out of San Jose. She is later identified and arrested for auto theft and felony hit-and-run.

10. 'Goldilocks' Burglar Strikes in Los Gatos, Sept. 22, 2011: Police arrest William Bennett Teramo, 24, after they say he broke into a home on Los Gatos Boulevard the afternoon of Sept. 21, ate the resident's food and slept in the master bedroom. Police say they found him inside the house and in possession of numerous syringes. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
