Woman Arrested For Car Break-In at Los Gatos Swim & Racquet Club

A 28-year-old woman was arrested last Friday in the break-in burglary of a car parked at the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club next to state Highway 17, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police said.

At 3:30 p.m. last Thursday, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police discovered broken glass from a car window in the parking lot of the tennis club at 14700 Oak Road in Los Gatos, according to Detective Sgt. Clint Tada.

Officers obtained surveillance video from the club that captured images of a suspect burglarizing the car of the victim's purse and other valuables, Tada said.

Police soon identified the suspect as Monica Verni, of San Jose, according to Tada. On Friday, a police officer contacted Verni in a parking lot of a medical clinic at 355 Dardanelli Lane.

She attempted to flee but the officer apprehended her after a brief foot pursuit, police said.

Police booked Verni into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and an outstanding bench warrant.

The Police Department is also investigating the suspect in connection with other recent auto burglaries in the Los Gatos area, according to Tada.

In 2009, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police arrested a suspect of the same name and year of birth with a male adult suspect in a string of home and auto burglaries in Los Gatos.

Tada said that anyone with information about the suspect may call the department at (408) 354-8600.
