Deputies Pick Up Registered Sex Offender Strolling SJ High School Campus

The suspect, 48, was found wandering around Del Mar High north of Campbell.

A registered sex offender who was arrested after walking around the campus of a high school in San Jose last week is being held without bail, Santa Clara County sheriff's officials said today.

Kevin Lamar Pickens, 48, who is listed as a sex offender on the Megan's Law list by the California Department of Justice, was seen traversing around the grounds of Del Mar High School in West San Jose on April 8, deputies said.

Pickens did not have permission to be on the school's campus, located at 1224 Del Mar Ave., and it was illegal for him to be there as a registered sex offender, according to the sheriff's office.
Del Mar High is located north of Campbell and a block east of South Bascom Avenue, between Stokes Street and Leon Drive.

Deputies from the sheriff's Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force arrested Pickens on suspicion of being a sex offender on the grounds of a school without lawful business, a misdemeanor, and for a probation violation.

He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on April 9 with no bail allowed, according to jail records.

Pickens has a prior conviction for assault with the intent of committing a sexual offense, according to the Megan's Law website.
