Updated: One Killed in Three-Car Crash on Highway 17 Near Los Gatos

Accident occurs at around 10:40 a.m. Monday; severe traffic alert was in effect on northbound Highway 17 at The Cats Restaurant and Tavern, 17533 Santa Cruz Highway.

Update: 1 p.m., April 29: The California Highway Patrol has reopened all lanes of Highway 17 after closures prompted by a fatal crash near Los Gatos this morning.

The crash was reported at about 10:40 a.m. on northbound Highway 17 just south of Los Gatos, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

One person was killed, Bartlett said.

Preliminary information indicated that the driver of a red sedan traveling south struck two cars on the southbound side and flipped over onto the northbound side.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the coroner is responding, Bartlett said.

At least one northbound lane remained closed as of 11:30 a.m.

A severe traffic alert was in effect on northbound Highway 17 at The Cats Restaurant and Tavern, 17533 Santa Cruz Highway, due to the accident.

The right lane was reported blocked.

Motorists wer advised to expect delays and avoid the area.
