New Year's Day Fights Keep Los Gatos Cops Busy

Two assaults are reported shortly after midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1 on North Santa Cruz Avenue.

Not long after the clock struck midnight on New Year's day, Los Gatos police kept busy with several crime incidents in the downtown area.

Two assaults, described as fights, were reported at 12:18 a.m. and 12:35 a.m. Jan. 1 on North Santa Cruz Avenue.

Then, three hours later, cops arrested Matthew MacLaughlin, 36, after a vehicle theft was reported and he was found to have items from the car in his possession, according to a police report.

MacLaughlin was also alleged to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia and under the influence of drugs, police said.

At 1:55 a.m. that morning, cops also arrested Kyle James Matthews, 26, on West Main Street on suspicion of being drunk in public.

Another resident reported being assaulted at a New Year's Eve party on Regent Drive.
