Motorist Strikes Median Barrier on Highway 17, Continues Driving
The California Highway Patrol continued to pursue the driver to Bear Creek Road, but found she had a medical issue.
A woman who failed to pull over on southbound state Highway 17 in Los Gatos this morning after the California Highway Patrol suspected her of driving drunk was actually suffering from low blood sugar, a CHP officer said.
The woman was spotted on Highway 17 at Lark Avenue in Los Gatos before 11 a.m. as she struck the center divide, which prompted the CHP to try to stop the driver, CHP Officer D.J. Sarabia said.

The driver did not yield to the CHP and continued driving for about 4 miles traveling at about 40 mph and hit the center divide four more times before she stopped just south of Bear Creek Road, Sarabia said.
Emergency crews responded and told the CHP the woman was suffering from low blood sugar and was possibly diabetic, Sarabia said. She was taken to the hospital.

She did not suffer any injuries in the crash, Sarabia said.
He said she was not evading officers and had not made any maneuvers to get away.
Sarabia said driving behavior from a diabetic episode can be perceived as drunken driving.
