Man Killed in Saratoga Solo Vehicle Crash Identified

Robert Pease was prominent Silicon Valley chip designer.

has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as Robert Pease.

Pease was driving a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle along a winding driveway at 14831 Pierce Road when, at about 5:45 p.m., he failed to negotiate a curve to the left, and veered to the right off of the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He crashed into a large tree on the right shoulder.

Pease was not wearing his seatbelt and it appears he was killed instantly, according to the CHP. The CHP has not yet determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

According to the Mercury News, Pease was a prominent Silicon Valley analog chip designer and author of several books on analog design and other topics and had a regular column in the Electronic Design magazine, which shared the news about his death with readers on Monday. But he is probably best known for his 33 years spent at National Semiconductor in Santa Clara.
