Los Gatos Swears In 2 New Cops

New officers will join Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department's patrol division and come from the San Jose Police Department.

Two new Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police officers were sworn in Monday morning during an informal ceremony inside Council Chambers at Town Hall.

The new officers are Minh Phan and Bill Hoyt, with 21 and 13 years of experience, respectively, with the San Jose Police Department.

The ceremony, sponsored by the Los Gatos Monte-Sereno Police Foundation, was attended by family members of the new officers and representatives from the Town of Los Gatos, the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, the San Jose Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies.

Los Gatos community advocate Jonathan Knowles, president of the LGMSPF, said the officers will rotate through the various divisions in the police department, starting with patrol.

"They've had experience with patrol, internal affairs, homicide," Knowles said about the officers.

The officers are said to fill two slots that were available in the department. Capt. Alana Forrest retired early this year and another officer has been promoted to captain, Knowles explained. "This is all sort of keeping the numbers the same," he said.
