Driver Killed When Vehicle Careens Over Embankment in Los Gatos Mountains

Fatal accident occurs near Highway 35 in the Bear Creek Space Preserve.

One person was killed early this morning when a vehicle went off the roadway in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, an area known as the Los Gatos Mountains.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the traffic collision occurred on Bear Creek Road, just west of state Highway 35.

The exact address of the accident is about eight miles from the center of town, in the Bear Creek Space Preserve. The fatalaity was reported shortly before 1 a.m., according to the CHP.

A passerby noticed skid marks on the roadway and saw that a vehicle had gone over the embankment, according to the CHP.

The passerby called for emergency service, reporting that the vehicle was several hundred feet down the embankment.

According to the CHP, the collision resulted in a solo fatality and the body was removed from the vehicle shortly after the emergency crews arrived on scene.

The collision remains under investigation and the vehicle will likely be removed from the embankment later today, according to the CHP.
