Driver in Los Gatos Crash Had Blood Alcohol Content 4 Times Legal Limit

Single vehicle rams into traffic signal pole sending inebriated driver to hospital for internal injuries.

Los Gatos Patch reader Sandra Houts heard "a terrible crash" at about 11 p.m. Sunday, May 12 near her house at the intersection of Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road.

She said she woke up to "street light repair at this corner."

"Was there an accident or did a light just fall?" she asked. "This tied up traffic for almost the whole day."

Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police Sgt. spokesman Stephen Walpole said the commotion that Sunday evening was caused when a highly intoxicated driver with a blood alcohol content four times the legal limit crashed into a pole at that intersection seriously injuring himself requiring hospitalization.

Officers were dispatched to the scene on a report of a single vehicle that had rammed into a pole, Sgt. Walpole said.

After arriving shortly after 11 p.m., they found a black Ford F150 wrapped around a traffic signal pole, which had been bent over and had severe damage, Sgt. Walpole added.

The driver, Jeff Burrill, 47, was transported to Valley Medical Center by ambulance for internal injuries he suffered during the crash, according to Sgt. Walpole.

Burrill was cited and released at the hospital for DUI and his blood alcohol content at the scene was more than four times the legal limit, Sgt. Walpole said.
