Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz: A Few Thoughts on Halie Loren
Just about 14 seconds.
That’s how long it took me to decide to book Halie Loren for Jazz on the Plazz.
Now in my defense, I am a bit slow yet 14 seconds isn’t a very long time. It was plenty of time to take very serious note of a terrific talent. And there’s an accordion in the band … how cool is that?
When considering her body of work, one is tempted to use phrases such as, “The next generation of jazz,” or “The new sound of jazz,” hackneyed remarks from writers that don’t get it.
The fact is there will always be just one generation of jazz, the one that’s playing.
The “new sound” is a variation on time-honored themes.
Halie is not out to reinvent the wheel. She is simply taking it down a different path.
A fresh face and an old soul, she will capture your heart and remind us all of just why we listen.
So get ready for a singer who will thrill you, a songwriter who will inspire starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 at Town Plaza Park, corner of North Santa Cruz Avenue and Main Street.
Hearing me, you may well think that I fall in love too fast. Hearing her, you’ll wonder what took me so long.
