Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz: A Few Thoughts on Beegie Adair

Don't miss this World War II tribute with Beegie Adair at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Town Plaza Park.

For most of us, it was the time of our parents.

A time of blackouts and rationing, of green stamps and Lucky Strikes, of unspeakable evil and unspoken courage.

A time when, “We’ll meet again,” was as uncertain as a bluebird over Dover.

It was the darkest of times when freedom itself no longer came with a guarantee.

Out of the chaos emerged a group of heroes and heroines that would forever be labeled, “The Greatest Generation.”

Tomorrow evening Wednesday, July 31 we salute not only what they did but also the music that helped them get through it.

I have been a fan of the music of World War II since I was a boy.

I have been a fan of Beegie Adair since I discovered jazz.

Adair's playing is sophisticated, elegant and very American. I can’t tell you how many folks have already thanked me for bringing her to Los Gatos. A number that is about to swell tenfold.

I am particularly pleased that she is joining us during our Gershwin Summer.

George and Ira will no doubt be smiling.

Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Town Plaza Park, corner of West Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue, in downtown Los Gatos will be a page from the past.

It will be a love song sent out with respect and gratitude, a thank-you to those of us here who were there.

Thank you for helping ensure that tonight could happen and that tomorrow will come.

Jazz tonight ... jazz tomorrow
