'A Cat' Named Morpheus Gray Wolf

Los Gatos North Santa Cruz panhandler doesn't consider himself 'homeless.'

There he is ... sitting on a bench on North Santa Cruz Avenue, light blue eyes engaging, accompanied by a generous smile.

He flashes a hand sign.

It's an unusual sight in the upscale strip—a homeless man shyly panhandling with the aid of a worn out brown hat, a dollar bill carefully taped near its rim to help passersby know where to drop the money.

He's not alone. Morpheus Gray Wolf has his dog Sara with him sitting on the bench.

"I'm here to prophesy ... about the upcoming war in 2020. It will be a global war. It's going to be bad. After seven years a man wolf will stop the war and he'll be honored, revered, worshiped," he says.

His apocalyptic warnings, he explains, are based on the Bible's book or Revelation, but are also contained in the Torah.

Morpheus Gray Wolf doesn't consider himself destitute. Rather, he says, he's on a "tour of duty."

He says he's been to Palm Springs, Santa Monica, Gilroy and other cities to spread the same message.

"I'm an albino Cherokee Indian," he says. "I've been working for the Great Father for a number of years."

Reluctant to say where his shelter is located, he only exalts the town's generosity and the friendliness of its people.

He then shows off his 10-month-old Catahoula Boxer mixed-breed canine friend.

Is he down and out asking for charity? "It's tithing," he reasons. "It helps with the cost of doing what I have to do."

He brings up a friend he's worried about who's been "drinking too much of that Lucifer fire water, alcohol."

When he's not drinking, he says his friend creates art.

After we press again for his camp's location, he says it's "up on the hillsides" of Los Gatos.

He will walk several miles to get there and he's no stranger in Los Gatos, he says.

Townsfolk know him well as an "angeli," the Latin word for angel, he adds.

"I'm an exclusive representative of the Almighty," he says.
