Los Gatos Veterans Memorial Foundation Hosts Artist Call-to-Arms Meeting

Meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. today, Thursday, May 30 at Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St.

Are you an artist, designer, or architect?

If you answered in the affirmative, then the Los Gatos Veterans Memorial Foundation wants you to attend a meeting today, Thursday, May 30 at 3 p.m. at Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St., to discuss its plans to build a Veterans Memorial at the Civic Center.

The Los Gatos Town Council has authorized the nonprofit organization to submit between two and four proposals honoring and supporting both veterans and the men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard currently serving around the world.

The foundation's mission is to:

  • Build and maintain a tribute to U.S. military members and veterans
  • Honor all U.S. military members and veterans past, present and future
  • Educate the community
  • Provide humanitarian support
The foundation intends to erect and manage in perpetuity a memorial in downtown Los Gatos that celebrates freedom and gives tribute to service members and veterans of the United States military, said foundation spokeswoman Ellen Manzo in a written press release.

The foundation was created in October 2012 and received nonprofit status in February. Its board of directors consists of individuals devoted to the needs of veterans, Manzo added.

Its members are Dr. Francis Harvey, former 19th Secretary of the United States Army; former Assistant Secretary of the Army Gilbert Decker, retired U.S. Army Major General Kent Hillhouse and active service members and veterans from all branches of the military and caring volunteers.

Details: Jackie Rose, 408-354-6853.
