The Woodshed showcase series presents new and local voices! San Jose's Blue House combines a rock attitude with a folkier acoustic/electric approach. Oakland's Aireene Espiritu draws from latin/african rhythms along with folk, bluegrass pickings and inspirations from gospel music for a mix of stompin', swayin', and timeless Americana.
The Woodshed is an 80-seat listening room located inside Keith Holland Guitars, managed by 501c3 nonprofit Woodshed Music & Arts.

About Blue House
With styles honed by their experiences as founding members of various bay area bands, Marlies de Veer and Amy Beasley combine a rocker's attitude with a folkier acoustic/electric approach to give them a unique sound. A vital part of that sound is their close-knit harmonies.
Amy is a talented singer/bass guitarist and songwriter who was born in Corning, New York and threw away a promising career as a cartoon couch potato (in her early childhood) to begin her career on piano, then moved to the guitar when she was big enough to hold one.
Marlies, guitarist and songwriter, was born into Dutch citizenship on the island of Borneo and now is a proud citizen of the United States. She started playing guitar at the age of 11 and performing with Amy when they were in high school together.
Brian Loud joined Blue House a few years ago. Originally from Tennessee, he brings his smooth vocals, distinguished guitar work and sense of humor to Blue House shows.
About Aireene Espiritu
Aireene is a singer/songwriter based in Oakland, CA, playing mostly original songs accompanied by latin/african rhythms, folk, bluegrass pickings and inspirations from gospel music - a mix of stompin', swayin', and timeless Americana.
She was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States at 10 years old, growing up in the third culture: the old country, the new country and a blend of both worlds. Mainly influenced by listening to Alan Lomax's field recordings from the South, and growing up listening to her uncles' Filipino folk guitar fingerpicking, her lyrics celebrate human beings being human, stories from ghosts and the living, and identities of cultures within cultures.
Backed by her tenor ukulele and guitar, both a 1950s Martin, Aireene's performances draw influences from the deep, earthy, heart-felt voicings of some of her favorite singers such as Odetta, Etta James, and Nina Simone.
