On the Hunt for a Summer Job

With summer vacation only six weeks away, it is time to search for a job again.

Last year, when I was 15, I found it challenging to find work, especially because of my age. Although the legal working age is 15, most local businesses require employees to be at least 16. So, last year, I ended up volunteering instead of working for money.

Although I am now at a more employable age, I still find it difficult to find work. I know of very few job opportunities for high school students here in town.

The jobs that are here are difficult to get, since I'm not the only kid who needs to find a way to pay for $4 per gallon gas. My friends and I are currently trying to find time to look for jobs outside of town where there may be more work opportunities for teenagers.

So far, I haven't had very much luck. School has been such a distraction lately that I haven't had time to drive out to the mall to look for work.

The best job offer that I have gotten so far was to babysit. I was offered the job back in March and would have taken it, but my parents thought that I was too busy with school to babysit and declined for me. Well, if they don't mind paying for gas ...

I need to start really searching for jobs. Summer is right around the corner, and I would like to be hired before school is out.

So far, I have only looked for posters and signs in windows that promote businesses that are hiring.

Most businesses also do not want to hire someone who will only work for about eight to 10 weeks, and many also do not want to hire teenagers.

Hopefully, everything will work out, and I will not have to spend my summer begging my parents for money to go out or to fill up my car. Wish me luck!
