No More Cafe De Flore!
Summit Bicycles is expanding into the old coffee shop space at 111 E. Main St. in downtown Los Gatos.
The popular Cafe de Flore, next to Summit Bicycles, has gone out of business.
According to Summit Bicycles employees, the small coffee shop, conveniently located across from Los Gatos Town Hall, ceased operations on Sept. 30.
Summit Bicycles, which has been at its 111 E. Main St. location for more than a decade, is planning to expand into the empty space.
Pancho Pimentel, marketing manager for Summit Bicycles, said his store will occupy the extra 2,000-plus square feet from the former cafe, or about a third of the space of the total current shop.
Summit Bicycles' expansion will be completed in December, Pimentel added, giving the business more showroom space to sell its high-end mountain and road bikes.
Pimentel said Cafe de Flore tried to find a buyer for the coffee shop for the past three months, until they couldn't continue subleasing from Summit Bicycles.
"It's been bittersweet. There's a lot of people who will miss the coffee shop, but there's a lot of people who are happy for us that we're growing and getting bigger," Pimentel said.
Summit Bicycles also has locations in Burlingame and San Jose.
