Los Gatos Creek Trail Closed For Brush Removal

Citations will be issued to residents who don't stay away, according to signs.

Yikes ... if you use the Los Gatos Creek Trail for walking, jogging, cycling or simply to recreate, you better stay away today Tuesday and tomorrow Wednesday, Oct. 2-3.

Signs posted Monday in some sections of the Los Gatos portion of the popular path alerted the public that it will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for brush removal.

"Strictly enforced. Citations will be issued. Follow detour signs," read a sign at the entrance of the trail right before the Roberts Road Bridge underpass on Monday. The sign had the number for the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department, 408-399-5770.

On the Los Gatos Patch Facebook page, reader Lisa Ann Strand said she had seen the signs, too, on Monday, while riding her bicycle on the trail, but couldn't find any evidence online, she said. Neither could we.

Strand said the sign was also posted on the trail entrance behind Old Town Center.

NOOOOOOO! I knew I should have read the sign. I was just about to hop on at Roberts. Oh well. Glad it is being cleaned up! Love our clean town.

With this closure, PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL WITH CYCLISTS. I was just out on my mountain bike and due to the closed trail, I had to use city streets to get to the Jones Trail Head. It was pretty scary, so thought it might be safer to use the alleys - even worse. People are speeding (over 15 mph) and did not look yield to cyclists. I am a courteous biker and obey laws and my only expectation is that drivers do so as well. Thanks :)

i am both a regular work-commuter cyclist and driver up college ave, which is the route most cyclists take to get to the trail. many cyclists routinely ride in the middle of the road, refuse to ride single file when in groups, and astoundingly, are often in the LEFT lane going around the blind corner (?!?!?!)...the abject stupidity of which doesn't seem to stop them from sneering at traffic. okay, i am done venting.
