5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 17

We're restarting our daily Patch column to give our readers essential, daily information at a glance.

1. The play lot at Oak Meadow Park will be closed through Friday so the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department can take out the play lot's old sidewalk and install a new, sidewalk, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The remainder of the park will be open during construction. 2. Wednesday is going to be a busy day for the town of Los Gatos. In the morning, 9 a.m. until noon, the parks and public works department will host its Community Open House in recognition of National Public Works Week. Tours of the Parks and Public Works Service Center, 41 Miles Ave., will be offered 9-11 a.m. Details: 408-399-5776.

3. The second North 40 Specific Plan public meeting is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at , Parkside Room, 16330 Los Gatos Blvd. The town's community development department seeks input to develop a specific plan for the area bounded by Highway 85 on the north, Lark Avenue on the south, Highway 17 on the west and Los Gatos Boulevard on the east. 4. Besides being National Public Works Week, this week is also National Emergency Medical Services Week, when we recognize those who respond to our 911 calls. We join El Camino Hospital in saying thank you to all the emergency-response workers who help to keep our community safe.

5. There's still time to catch the annual Student Art Show at Louise Van Meter Elementary School's multipurpose room. The show runs through Wednesday—9 a.m-4 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, the last day. The show is sponsored by Art Docents of Los Gatos.
