Town Crier XI

Time, once more, to list some of the not-so-important but sort of interesting things happening around town.

Helpful Hints From the Oil Companies

First of all, here is a handy guide provided by the Union 76 gas station on Los Gatos Boulevard at Lark Avenue:

We don’t know if they provide copies of this guide but it would be nice to keep one handy in our glove compartments.

Local History Updated by Senior Seniors from LG High School

The Los Gatos Public Library is famous for its large collection of historical photographs called “Hooked on Los Gatos” (some of which are available online at http://www.historylosgatos.org/).  Donn Waters is one of the several volunteers who work on this collection, researching and organizing the background of the many photographs and documents in the collection.  Back on August 27, Donn, a native of Los Gatos and a Los Gatos High graduate, called a meeting on C.B. Hannegan’s patio, asking older Los Gatos residents to attend and view a series of photographs, photographs about which the volunteers have absolutely no information.

About 30 of Donn’s contemporaries showed up for this first viewing of the large number of undocumented pictures.  More than half  of the 200 pictures presented were at least partially identified in some way or another, either by location, event or personal identification.  By the end of the evening, the event turned into a rather jovial, festive event as petty much everyone had gone to high school in the same era and have known each other for most of their lives.

Donn plans on having more of these picture identification events in the future so be on the lookout for Donn’s “History Mysteries” events in the coming months.

More Local Artist Info

Now fast-forward from Donn’s High School time frame about 15 or 20 years, and we find ourselves behind one of the old brick buildings on Main Street across from the car dealership showroom.  Who do we find here but four artists posing for a photographer, around 1968 (go to link at the bottom of this post to see the photograph).

The fellow with the tie and jacket, with his foot on the stone, is Gene Faucher who has become a good friend of mine these days.  Gene is a long time graphic designer and the guy to his right, on the staircase, is Tom Rigney, a fellow artist with whom Gene shared several offices.  To Gene’s left is Graham Morrison, an architectural render from New Zealand.  Seated on the deck in front of Morrison is Rick Guidice, the youngest of the bunch.  Rick was a graduate  of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and worked for Graham. While Rick was working as an architectural renderer, he made a connection with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA, as we commonly call it. Rick did renderings for NASA, providing tangible images of things that had yet to be built and sometimes, things that might not even be possible to build with current technology or places that NASA will never get to. . .
