'Sofa U Love' Opening in Los Gatos

California-made furniture comes to former furniture location on North Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Los Gatos.

California furniture store "Sofa U Love" has announced it's opening in Los Gatos at the site of the former Los Gatos Dream Home Design space that closed in November.

A peek inside the remodeled store this weekend revealed Sofa U Love will have a large showroom at 301 No. Santa Cruz Ave.

The space is empty and the store hasn't announced the exact date of its opening yet.

The new Los Gatos location will become Sofa U Love's 12th outlets in California, selling customers sofas, sectionals, sleeper sofas, chairs and tables made in the state.

LG Dream Home Design, which was managed by Julie Watros, served town residents and downtown Los Gatos shoppers for three years, officially opened in November of 2010.

LG Dream Home Design specialized in importing furniture and fine, hand-made antiques, hand-woven rugs, and accessories from several countries around the world.

While its warehouse is located in San Leandro, the business' only showroom was in Los Gatos.

doesn't this make it a "formula retail" store? why didn't this have to go in front of the planning commission? another store that further degrades what our downtown represents.....

It's great to have California-made furniture available. We need more locally made products instead of items fro overseas.

@Eric, I'm checking with town staff to get an answer for you on the formula retail question. Thanks for reading!

@Sheila - any update on this??
Sheila Sanchez (Editor) January 15, 2014 at 02:00 PM
Waiting on town staff. Will try again now. Thanks for your patience.

store already has inventory in it... not sure if it's open yet. definitely wondering why this didn't come up in planning and why the town hasn't answered sheila....

@ Larry, yes, still waiting. Will talk to them tonight at Council meeting.

I must say the Sofa U Love store is the biggest eye sore in town yet. Totally drab store with totally drab inventory. Add in the goofy logo and sign... I'm just depressed by what los gatos is turning into. What a great restaurant location it would have made. At least the beauty store closed :)

Anything from the meeting sheila?
Eric January 28, 2014 at 01:20 PM
Sheila, still nothing?
Esmée St James January 28, 2014 at 08:01 PM
I like your idea, Larry!
Eric January 29, 2014 at 05:54 PM
apparently sheila is no longer with the patch.
Esmée St James January 29, 2014 at 06:16 PM
Oh gosh, anyone know where she went? I'd like to stay in touch with her.
Eric January 30, 2014 at 02:20 PM
not yet - do you have the email?
Eric January 30, 2014 at 06:03 PM
Just sad. It's the ugliest store downtown by far.
Esmée St James January 30, 2014 at 09:52 PM
They could sure use a decorator! Wait, that doesn't make sense... :-)

Avoid this place like the Russian flu. Cheaply made furniture in a garage sale setting.
Meg February 19, 2014 at 04:15 PM
Store is half empty, how do they expect to sell anything? Only sofas, no chairs, no sofa beds, no headboards etc...has anyone read the yelp reviews? Really bad, all but the San Francisco store.

We are very democratic in this town. One of the Town council members even declared that we are not a shopping center and do not qualify the kinds of business we allow in Town. You can not legislate good taste. But then again it is too late now, even if we tried. Some of us still remember when Los Gatos was an upscale retail community.
