Los Gatos' Time Out Clothing Celebrates Anniversary By Going Green

Thursday celebration gives customers reusable cotton tote bags to shop giving them discounts for remembering to be environmentally friendly.

Time Out Clothing, 108 No. Santa Cruz Ave., the popular women’s apparel store owned by Los Gatos native Ginger Rowe, celebrated its 19th anniversary with a huge party on Thursday that included handing out its new 100 percent organic cotton tote bags to happy customers.

The store, which opened in January of 1994, has started a new "going green" campaign that consists of giving a stamp card to customers that offers them a discount after getting it marked five times for using a reusable bag to shop.

"We attached a stamp card to each of the bags in hopes that customers will begin to bring in their reusable bags," explained store spokeswoman Ashley Dong. "We hope to start a trend in the Los Gatos community by using reusable tote bags and limiting the use of paper bags."

She settled in Los Gatos and began working for a women’s clothing store after college. She held positions in management, fashion marketing and purchasing.

In an interview with Los Gatos Patch in May of 2011, Rowe said she had always wanted to be an independent business woman. "I had a love for fashion at an early age. My grandmother made all my clothes because I always wanted something different than what I found in the stores," she said.

When Rowe first opened her store in town, her clothing selection featured  workout wear, swimwear and some children’s clothing. Today, it includes casual wear and accessories in addition to workout wear and swimwear.

After two years of operating in a 500-square-foot retail space, Time Out Clothing expanded down the street to the larger location where it's found today.

The store is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
