Qué Picante ... This Chipotle!

Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming to the former Hollywood Video location at the corner of Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road, making it at least the tenth Mexican-style eatery that we know of to set roots in Los Gatos.

According to a sign posted on the vacant lot's glass door, the restaurant has requested a license to sell alcohol on the premises.

The national burrito chain restaurant is within close distance to Una Mas, Baja Fresh and Taco Bell on Los Gatos Boulevard and High Tech Burrito on Blossom Hill Road. There's also Two Pesos Taqueria on Pollard Road.

Travel just about two miles to the center of town and you can dine at two Andales, Pedro's and the new fancy Palacio Restaurant.

Colorado-based Chipotle Mexican Grill spokesman Alex Pong said the store in Los Gatos is scheduled to open in early October 2012 and it will be around 3,000 square feet. "We appreciate the opportunity to serve this great area and share the Chipotle experience with the community there," Pong said.

Town folk seem thrilled with the offerings.

Jim Farr, sitting on a recent afternoon at the Starbuck's just down the street from the future site of Chipotle, said that having another Mexican choice is good for the local economy, and will be less expensive than other Mexican restaurants in town.

"I think that the idea that a business is opening in this economic climate is a good thing, no matter what the type of business it is," Farr said.

Nick Ramos, who comes from Hispanic descent, said he is glad to see all the options.

"Hey, it's not such a bad thing ... We could use more Mexican-style restaurants in this town," Ramos said. "Chipotle is good because the food is at a reasonable price and you get a good portion of food."
