Bill Cosby Likes Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company's Triple Short Caffè Latte!

Comedian Bill Cosby stopped by Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company, 101 West Main St., Friday afternoon on his way to a performance at The Mountain Winery and liked its triple short caffè latte so much that he ordered another one and called owner Teri Hope to congratulate her on having such an exquisite hot brew.

An elated Hope said Cosby called the store at about 5:30 p.m. to praise her on the fine taste of her drink. She said she almost didn't pick up phone as it was near closing time, but was delighted she didn't let the call go to voice mail.

"I picked up the phone and said, 'Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. This is Teri. How can I help you? and on the line is this familiar voice that says, 'This is Bill Cosby.' "

Hope said she replied: "The Bill Cosby?" To which he replied, "Yes. I'm at The Mountain Winery tonight and when I was coming into town I told my driver I needed a really good cup of coffee and my driver said, 'Then I got to take you to Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company."

Cosby sent the driver to get the hot brew and he was drinking it on his way to the Saratoga concert venue, Hope said, adding that Cosby remarked it was the best coffee he had ever had.

"The only other time he had coffee that good was at Caffe Trieste, and I said, O my gosh, that's such a compliment."

Hope said the funny man said the coffee was so tasty that he sent the driver back to the store to get a second cup before he went on the stage that evening.

Hope said what ensued later in the conversation felt more like an interview, with Cosby asking her, "What's your story? How did you get into the business?"

She said she told Cosby how she started her business more than 30 years ago and how Caffe Trieste was one of her inspirations.

Cosby's assistance took a picture of the famous celebrity holding the 12-ounce cup and sent her a text with the photo after the phone call, she said.

On her Facebook page, she posted the photo Friday evening and wrote: "Wow I'm still in shock. I got a personal call from Bill Cosby this afternoon - he called to complement me on the triple short caffe latte he got from Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. Bill said it was so delicious that he sent out for another one before his show at Mountain Winery tonight. We had a great little chat and then he sent his photo to my iPhone! Here he is, the super star, so very kind to take the time to make a call to pay a compliment. I am star struck and now my espresso is officially star quality. Bill Cosby rocked my world!"

More than 40 friends had left comments at the end of Hope's Facebook post congratulating her on Cosby's sweet gesture.

Hope said she told Cosby she was on "cloud 9" after receiving his call and was deeply touched that he went out of his way to contact her company to compliment her on the coffee. "I said I was amazed and he said, 'Well, at this stage in my life, what's really left for me to do is to thank people and congratulate them for doing things well.' I was so touched."

Hope said she told Cosby the call had meant the world to her. "What an incredibly conscientious man with such a big heart that he takes his time out of his busy life to thank people. The story is about his big heart," Hope said.

Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company has been visited by other celebrities in the past such as former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lyle Lovett and John Denver was also a loyal customer, according to Hope.

In case you want to get what Cosby got last Friday afternoon, Hope said he ordered a triple short caffe latte, which is freshly roasted from premium coffee beans, made by well-trained baristas.

It contains three shots of espresso and the short means Cosby doesn't want a lot of water in the drink. The latte means he likes a little bit of milk to soften the drink.

"It's a very strong cup of coffee," Hope remarked. "He must have been pretty wired. He described himself as a coffee aficionado and he said coffee was really important to him."
