Patch Watch: Los Gatos Almaden Road Utility graffiti

Do you have any blight or problem spots to report to Los Gatos Patch? If so, please send your Patch Watch suggestion to Sheila.Sanchez@patch.com.

Los Gatos Patch reader and contributor Gary Hinze took this photo of what he calls utility graffiti on the north side of Los Gatos Almaden Road near Gardenia Way in Los Gatos.

The markings tell contractors where utilities are in the street so they don't dig up a gas line, water line, liquid nitrogen line or other utility, Hinze explained.

"Call USA before you dig" is normally scribbled on the ground to warn the public to contact Underground Services Alert, according to Hinze. However, some members of the public find them offensive when they're left indefinitely on the ground without prompt removal.

LOCATION: North side of Los Gatos Almaden Road near Gardenia Way.

PROBLEM: Utility graffiti has been spray-painted to warn contractor, but marking is there indefinitely without being removed.

RESPONSIBLE AGENCY: Unknown which utility left the marking on the ground.

CONTACT:  Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department, 408-399-5770, or email ppw@losgatosca.gov. You may also report graffiti to the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department's graffiti hotline number, 408-354-6863.
