5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 16

Meeting author Laurie R. King should make your day and get you excited about her forthcoming novel 'Pirate King.'

1.  Raymond J. Fisher Middle School will be holding its graduation ceremony this afternoon, June 16 at 6 p.m., at , 16330 Los Gatos Blvd. If you have friends with middle schoolers finally moving on to Los Gatos High School, it's a great opportunity to show some support and offer some congratulations.

2. Make plans to tour Los Gatos High School's large gym tomorrow, Friday, June 17, 4-8 p.m. where Grad Night, an annual all-night party thrown by the parents for all seniors, including Middle College and NOVA, will take place. According to the event's Web site, the party will include food buffets, musical entertainment, a casino, arcade games, a spa and massage rooms. 3. Meet author Laurie R. King at the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave., at 2 p.m., today, June 16. King's appearance is part of the library's Meet the Authors and adult summer reading programs. She will be speaking about her forthcoming novel Pirate King, the next installment in the popular Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes mystery series, which will be published Sept. 6.

4. Plan to get up early tomorrow so you won't be late! Join Los Gatos resident Brad Armstrong, co-owner of the Willow Glen store, for a free hilly trail run at 6:30 a.m. every Friday.
