5 Things You Need to Know Today, July 9

Attend the Vasona Vibrations and Music in the Park concerts this weekend.

1. Register today for The Jungle Run half marathon or 10K at 7 a.m., Sunday, July 10, at New York Avenue next to the track. Both distances finish at the track. The course extends north through the streets of town onto the scenic Los Gatos Creek Trail at the Los Gatos Creek County Park in Campbell. 2. Make plans today to attend the  "Big Truck Day" event at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 9, in the library parking lot, 110 E. Main St. Ever wonder about all of those town big trucks you see driving around? Well, this is your chance to see them up close. You'll be able to climb aboard the vehicles, meet the drivers and learn about the services they offer through their work with the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department, the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department and the Santa Clara County Fire Department. 3. Enjoy the fourth free, family-friendly concert 5-7 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Vasona Lake County Park. This Saturday, Red Hot Chachkas is the featured group. The concerts are located on the lawn near the Ranger Office down the hill from the pedestrian entrance at University Avenue and Pepper Tree Lane. 4. Attend a Youth Science Institute Nature Center open house, 333 Blossom Hill Drive, noon to 4 p.m., July 9, and meet all the wonderful animals, including, toads, newts, snakes, chinchillas and more. 5. Enjoy the fourth free Music in the Park summer outdoor concert, 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 10, Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn, 110 E. Main St. The show is part of the popular MIP series, a fixture of the Los Gatos summer scene. The act this Sunday is Aja Vu. Music in the Park, which started more than two decades ago, is produced through a partnership between the Town and Los Gatos Music & Arts, best known for its successful Jazz on the Plazz concert series.
