5 Things You Need to Know Today, July 31

If you've never been, we recommend the Gilroy Garlic Festival, but make sure and wear comfortable shoes and cool clothing.

1. Today, Sunday, July 31, is the last chance to see the 's presentation of the family-friendly musical Grease at  Get your tickets for the matinee or evening shows by clicking here. Details: Brian Houg at info@lgyt.net.

2.  presents Crossing Boundaries, an exhibition featuring the paintings of Ming Jing (Mike) Wang and the sculptures of Kristin Lindseth Rivera through Sept. 15, at 4 Tait Ave. at W. Main St. On Sunday, July 31, the museum sponsors a meet the artists reception 4-5 p.m., at the same location for members only. On Thursday, Sept. 15, 7-9 p.m., there will be a an artist demonstration. Details: 408-395-7386.      

3. If you've never attended the Gilroy Garlic Festival, this weekend is your chance. Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31. More than 100,000 people are expected to participate in the 33rd "Stinking Rose" extravaganza at Christmas Hill Park. Details: 408-842-1625.

4. The Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival continues this weekend with performances at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday July 30-31, at Oak Meadow Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd. The Festival Theatre Ensemble will perform the non-Shakespearean Charley's Aunt comedy, the Tragedy of Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Performances end at around 9:30 p.m., so the public is asked to take blankets or jackets to stay warm and be comfortable. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and youth under 17 years of age. Details: 408-996-0635 or fteshakes@gmail.com.

4. Enjoy the seventh free Music in the Park summer outdoor concert, 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 31, Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn, 110 E. Main St. The show is part of the popular MIP series, a fixture of the Los Gatos summer scene. The act this Sunday is Petty Theft. Music in the Park, which started more than two decades ago, is produced through a partnership between the Town and Los Gatos Music & Arts, best known for its successful Jazz on the Plazz concert series.
