5 Things You Need to Know Today, July 16

Celebrate Timothy Halpin's life today by attending his memorial service this morning and showing the Halpin family some support toward the Mikey Halpin Legacy Foundation.

1. Friends and family will gather at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Rd, at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, to celebrate the life of Timothy Halpin, which ended July 3 after a tragic motorcycle accident on Blossom Hill Road near Highway 17. The Halpin family will allow the public to attend this event, according to daughter Rose Telles. Timothy is the father of the late Mikey Halpin, a 17-year-old senior at who died in December of 2008 after collapsing at school from an undetected heart condition. In lieu of flowers, the Halpin family asks that donations be made in the form of checks to the Michael Halpin Legacy Foundation.

2. will be presenting a fashion show for dogs and their owners 1-3 p.m., Saturday, July 16, at the Los Gatos Adult Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. You may come with your best friend to admire the pooches that will walk the red carpet in costumes. There will be treats, prizes and surprises for dogs and humans. Suggested donation is $5 to help support senior programs. Details: 408-354-1514.

3. The Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival continues its opening weekend performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Oak Meadow Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd. The Festival Theatre Ensemble will perform the non-Shakespearean Charley's Aunt comedy, the Tragedy of Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Performances end at around 9:30 p.m., so the public is asked to take blankets or jackets to stay warm and be comfortable. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and youth under 17 years of age. Details: 408-996-0635 or fteshakes@gmail.com.

4. The Nike Animal Rescue Foundation’s 16th annual “Walk Your Tail Off” for homeless pets scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, July 17 at Los Gatos Creek Park, 1250 Ell Ave., in Campbell. This is the main walk-a-thon fundraiser for the organization and 97 percent of funds raised are spent on the animals. 5. Enjoy the fifith free Music in the Park summer outdoor concert, 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 17, Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn, 110 E. Main St. The show is part of the popular MIP series, a fixture of the Los Gatos summer scene. This week's theme is "Motown Classics" featuring the group The Best Intentions. Music in the Park, which started more than two decades ago, is produced through a partnership between the Town and Los Gatos Music & Arts, best known for its successful Jazz on the Plazz concert series.
