9/11 Mother: 'It's Been Electric Around Here.'

Alice Hoagland, whose son was Mark Bingham, the Los Gatos High graduate killed on 9/11, says she is relieved at the terrorist's death.

The mother of the late Los Gatos High School graduate, Mark Bingham, who died while trying to prevent al-Qaida terrorists from downing Flight 93 on 9/11, said she was relieved at the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. Forces.

"We are taking in the news and we are relieved that the terrorist who masterminded 9/11 has finally been brought to justice—and brought to justice by the hands of the United States," said Alice Hoagland, who now lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Hoagland has spoken to the media in the past about how 31-year-old Bingham called her from the plane shortly before it went down.

"I’ve missed my son every day ... and it feels that this is a little bit of closure for a terrible tragedy like 9/11."

Hoagland said families of other victims had called her to tell her the news. "It’s been electric around here," she said. "I’m getting pretty excited here. [I'm] trying to temper the news with the sobering thought that there might be some kind of ugly backlash."

President Barack Obama announced the news in a Sunday evening nationwide broadcast from the White House that America's most-wanted terrorist had been killed by U.S. forces. Bin Laden was accused of being the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people.

"The United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, leader of al-Qaeda," President Obama said.

According to the president, bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in a firefight in Pakistan. Officials have bin Laden's body. Major television news outlets offered their special reports on the announcement Sunday night, recounting the 10 years since the deadly attacks.

"The death of Bin Laden marks the most significant achievement of our country to date in our fight against al-Qaeda," said the president.
