Howl For Halloween in Los Gatos

With the closing of Society Dog, unofficial gathering is being planned at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 in downtown No. Santa Cruz Avenue.

Once again the Town of the Cats will go to the dogs.

This Halloween dog event, originally started by Society Dog, continues this year as an ad-hoc meet-up of community members who are determined to keep this family friendly tradition going.

Their weekly group dog walks were very popular in Los Gatos and other communities, according to participants.

With the closing of Society Dog, many Los Gatos and surrounding community members wondered if it would be possible to continue such a gathering.

Word started spreading that people should just show up for the annual event this year along North Santa Cruz Avenue.

However, there is no sponsor and no official organizer this year, according to dog lovers who wish to remain anonymous.

The event won't have any entertainment or contests this year and will be "all about seeing and being seen and having a good time," said a very friendly dog person in Los Gatos.

It's estimated there are 12,000 pooches in Los Gatos and all their proud owners are invited to bring themselves and their canine companions, in costume of course, to the gathering.

Those not withing to dress up who want to show off their loyal pets can just attend and watch the fun.

Just like last year, many downtown shops along North Santa Cruz Avenue will be giving away dog treats.

Most of the shops and all of the best restaurants downtown with outdoor seating are dog friendly and attendees are encouraged to stay in the town's central business district to shop and dine after the event.
