9/11 Interfaith Service Set for Area
Sean Penn's documentary, 'Love Hate Love,' will be shown.
What is it about increments of five that causes memorials? Why not nine years after 9/11, or 11? Anyway, whatever year, it is certain that the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, is etched in the minds of Americans.
So on Wednesday, six area groups that represent the three great monotheistic faiths—Judaism, Islam and Christianity—will gather in solemn conclave at the McAfee Performing Arts and Lecture Center, 20300 Herriman Ave., in Saratoga.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a Sean Penn documentary, Love Hate Love. Following that, first-responders will be honored. Then there will be a discussion about volunteering.
In response to 9/11, there have been two wars. Cross-boarder violence breaks out again between Israelis and Palestinians. Some folk protest a mosque scheduled for location near the 9/11 site in New York City.
Each of the above-named monotheistic faiths tend to live in their own enclaves. Do not these facts at least suggest the value of people coming together in mutual respect, seeking a community that is still out of reach?
