ALERT: Fatal Crash on Hwy 17 Shuts Lanes Near Bear Creek Road

Closures could be in effect through 2:30 p.m. today.

Thursday, July 10, 9:17 a.m.

A big-rig crash on state Highway 17 this morning has left at least one person dead and has shut down both northbound lanes and one southbound lane near Bear Creek Road in Santa Clara County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said it appeared the big rig lost its brakes while traveling north on Highway 17.

The crash was reported at about 7:50 a.m., and CHP issued a Sig-alert at 8:16 a.m.

Traffic is being diverted to state Highway 9, according to CHP.

CHP said the Highway 17 lane closures will remain in effect until 2:30 p.m. Preliminary reports to the CHP said that multiple other vehicles were involved.

The CHP called several ambulances to the scene, including a life flight helicopter.
