The 1.56 square mile city is governed by City Manager Brian Loventhal and Council members Curtis Rogers, Burton Craig, Sue Garner, Lana Malloy and Marshall Anstandig. Like the Town of Los Gatos, the Santa Clara County Fire Department provides fire protection services. Police services are provided by the Town of Los Gatos' Police Department, which also has its name. Library services are provided by the Santa Clara County Library system.
The Santa Clara County Fire Department serves the communities of Los Gatos, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos…More Hills, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and the county's unincorporated areas. It includes 16 fire stations, an administrative headquarters, a maintenance facility, five support facilities and more than 100 vehicles to cover approximately 100 square miles of land and a population of more than 210,000 residents. It has more than 265 employees, including firefighters and about 40 volunteer firefighters.
The department's chief is Kenneth L. Waldvogel, who's been serving in that position since 2006. He's been a firefighter since 1976 and joined the department in 1978. The department's services include fire prevention, public education and fire suppression, fire investigation, EMS, rescue and special operations. Three of the department's offices are located in Los Gatos.
