The beautiful Town of Los Gatos is located 60 miles south of San Francisco in the southwestern part of Santa ClaraMore County. According to 2006 U.S. Census Bureau data, the town has a population of more than 28,366 residents. It's bordered by San Jose, Campbell, Monte Sereno and Saratoga. The town is 14 square miles and is one of the oldest communities in the county, incorporated in 1887. According 2006 Census statistics, the town's ethnic breakdown is 86.7 percent white, .8 percent black, .3 percent Native Indian and Alaska Native, 7.6 percent Asian, .1 percent Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander and 5.2 percent Hispanic. 

The town has a strong downtown retail presence with more than 3,000 businesses that include restaurants, hotels and shops.

The town's mayor is Diane McNutt and the town's vice mayor and council members are Joe Pirzinski, Steve Rice, Barbara Spector and Steve Leonardis, respectively. They are elected to four-year terms. The mayor's position is rotated between council members for one year. There are no term limits on the council. The town's manager is Greg Larson and the town's assistant manager is Pamela S. Jacobs. The town operates under a council/manager form of government, meaning the town manager handles managerial duties, under the leadership of the council.

The town council meets at 7pm on the first and third Monday of every month in the town council chambers, 110 East Main Street. Meetings are broadcast live on KCAT Channel 15.  The town's Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month in the town council chambers. Commission meetings are also broadcast live on KCAT Channel 15.
