On April 17, 2012, a private memorial service was held to honor Thomas Kinkade, father to four daughters and painter to millions of collectors. The service was held under a majestic canopy of towering redwood trees overlooking a serene lake at Nestldown, Los Gatos, California. Remembrances of Thom were given by wife Nanette Kinkade, daughters Merritt, Chandler, Winsor, Evie Kinkade, brother Patrick Kinkade, sister Kate Johnson, sister-in-law Suzanne Moore, and long time family friends and former partners, Ken and Linda Raasch. Retired Santa Clara County Superior Court judge died at Cedar Creek Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Center April 8.
Retired Judge Edgar P. Taylor died peacefully in his sleep April 8 in Los Gatos. He was 81. According to daughter Katherine Taylor Hall, her father served on the Santa Clara County Superior Court bench for 12 years. After retirement in Albuquerque, NM, he returned to Los Gatos with his beloved wife Patricia and continued to preside over certain cases on a part-time, as-needed basis. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, he also worked as a Los Gatos Municipal Court judge on Capri Drive for at least 15 years, she said. "My dad was an amazingly brilliant, funny, kind man," Taylor Hall said. "We're so grateful that our father is now reunited with our mother. She was the love of his life." Paul Dubois died peacefully at the Mission Skilled Nursing & Subacute Center in Santa Clara Feb. 19 at 4:20 p.m. after a courageous battle with stage-4 esophageal cancer, which had metastasized throughout his body. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, the tumor was effectively removed from the esophagus, but unfortunately the cancer had spread rapidly into his brain. Although realizing in the end that his life was compromised, he remained hopeful and optimistic. He breathed his last breath cradled in his beloved wife's arms. He was born Dec. 23, 1942 in Oakland, the only child of Paul A. Dubois IV and Mary Jane Johnson Dubois. Paul's birth father was in the Marine Corp. and died during WWII when Paul was only 2. Susan (Sue) LaForge, 70, died at her home in San Jose, California, on Feb. 7, 2012. She was born on May 15, 1941, in Newton, KS to John F. and Margaret (Fugate) King. She graduated from Newton High School in 1959, and attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia and Wichita State University, where she was news editor for the WSU Sunflower and earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in journalism and psychology. On April 27, 1967, she married John C. LaForge at Grace Memorial Chapel on the WSU campus. In August 1967, Sue joined the staff of the Los Gatos Times Observer, where she held the position of managing editor for 10½ years. Doug S. Beattie passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest Jan. 13, 2012 at age 72. Beloved husband of Martha, adored father of Kathryn of Black Mountain, NC. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Emily, and brother Ken. Doug had a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Stanford and a master of business administration from Columbia. Advancing rapidly from a career in newspaper delivery and shoe shining as a boy, he was a manufacturing engineer at FMC, then left to begin his own business manufacturing portrait cameras, Beattie Engineering Corp. on Bean Avenue in Los Gatos. He sold that business and moved to Ohio with it, then on to various jobs in production management in Rhode Island and Boston. He became disabled with …

Steve passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2011 in Stanford Medical Center, after a two and a half year battle with bile duct cancer. His family was by his side. Steve is survived by the love of his life, his wife Judy, and his two sons from a previous marriage, Jason and Trevor. Steve was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward Glickman and Helen Ginsberg. He held a B.S. in Physics from Brooklyn College, and a Ph.D. in Physics from Syracuse University. Post-docs were completed at Imperial College in London, England, and at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Long Island, NY. In 1978 he was principal scientist at Pfizer Medical Systems working on designing software for the development of the first CT scanners. Steve moved to California in 1984…

Beatriz Delgado Garza of Los Gatos, died Oct. 2, 2011 in Lake Forest, CA. Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, México on April 10, 1929 to Ricardo and Guadalupe Delgado. Beatriz was married to Dr. Erasmo Garza and immigrated to the United States in 1955. Dr. Garza pre-deceased her in 2005. Beatriz was a resident of Los Gatos for 45 years. Longtime Los Gatos business owner and town personality Eva (Diane) Violet Ogilvie passed away on Oct. 3 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and her service dog, Ella. She was 92 years young. She was preceded in death by her husband and “prince” Bruce. She is survived by her daughter, Terrie Ogilvie Christiansen, her son, Doug Ogilvie, five grandchildren, Tandem Hayden, Ariel and Morgan Ogilvie, Kim Bridgford, and Jodi Raich, three great grandchildren, James, Sean, and Laila, and her daughters-in-law Lynn Stanghellini and Leslie Ogilvie. Peggy Anne Bohn passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Sept. 22, 2011, in Provo, Utah. She was born March 4, 1943, in Los Angeles, California to Lynne and Aline Pettit. She married Robert "Bob" F. Bohn (who preceded her in death on September 24, 2005), in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 3, 1965. Peggy attended Utah State University for one year and met Bob in Tripoli, Libya (where her family was living while her father was on assignment for the U.N.) when Bob was traveling in Europe and North Africa. Hundreds turn out to mourn loss of 22-year-old Valley Christian High School graduate.
About 700 people, young and old, packed The Home Church on Winchester Boulevard in Campbell Saturday afternoon to celebrate the life of Andrew Daou. The memorial service for Daou, who died July 27 in his unincorporated Los Gatos home from a gunshot wound, featured favorite Bible readings and musical selections from Daou’s piano teacher identified only as "Samia."
