I used to freelance for Los Gatos Patch and I saw Peter all over town at several different events. I…Read More first met him while covering the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Foundation fundraiser one year. Of course he had his camera in hand. He saw my little, pathetic digital camera and offered to email me some "more professional" shots he had taken of the event. I guess that was Peter, very generous and kind.

As we grieve for those who Peter left behind and feel the loss in our community, we need to take a…Read More moment of remembrance and celebration for the life of a man who in fact did have "A life well lived!" So many Peter Carter stories, so many good wishes; I have my own stories I have shared, but of all of them, Peter was often (and sometimes unknowingly) a true inspiration. The last time we spoke, he said, "Roger, when are you going to stop re-inventing yourself?" Probably never, my response. Thank you Peter, for all of your contributions.

Bill was one of the good guys of Silicon Valley. He was a business man with a strong sense of doing…Read More right by his customers and he was a steward of local agriculture. He helped folks when they were down and lived his life by a farm community philosophy of taking care of one another. The Cornucopia fruit stand he and Connie operate is a treasure of Silicon Valley. He will be sorely missed here in Campbell and Los Gatos but the fruit in heaven just got a whole lot better.

I'm a…Read More lifetime Independent.
My opposition to the Dirty Demos is all about their policy and how it relates to my lifetime study of history.
They're plain out dirty liars and absolutely wrong about most everything.

In general the caliber of key speeches for the Democrats was significantly better that the…Read More Republicans and covered different angles about the president. Michelle spoke about the person, the father, the husband where they came from; Clinton attacked the claims of the Romney campaign very effectively; Obama addressed his accomplishments and going forward. The Republicans talked about bashing Obama and clearly followed the Tea Party’s line.
But I agree that the two conventions have changed few minds, perhaps 1-2%. It will be the upcoming debates that will most likely have the greatest impact. I would like to hear more said about policy differences than bashing one another.
I still do not understand why the Republicans have such disdain towards Obama. Is it because he is black? I still hear people questioning his birth place. Or is it his strange Arab sounding name? Had he been white would they still have hated him so much?
I also don’t understand why Republicans can ignore the need for Romney to release the last few years of his tax returns, or let him get away with not being specific as to how he will change taxes especially since taxes are one of his main campaign issues. Is he hiding something? Does he even have a tax reform strategy other than to lower taxes for the wealthy? His vagueness about his taxes and tax strategy should be something everyone should want to know.

What for the presence of Dr. Jerry Hanson on a Santa Fe vacation with the Weimers some thirty years…Read More ago, we'd have attended Leigh's services back then. Seems that the cocktail onion in his gibson got the best of him and it was only Jerry's quick and expert application of the Heimlich Maneuver (causing the onion to pop out very unceremoniously) that Leigh was able to continue on for several more decades. Very sad that we will never be able to share cocktails again with a most delightful friend.

My husband John was Edgar's classmate at Avalon High School along with Tyke Furey. All the alumni…Read More from the 40's stayed in close contact through the years and the small student body made that possible. Edgar was one of the first people my husband introduced to me and he and I hit it off immediately. Such a warm, witty guy. We looked forward to seeing Ed and Patsy every year and stayed in touch between reunions. Ed never bounced back after losing his beloved Patsy in 2003. We managed to keep in touch, even seeing him in late 2010 at the Center where we shared lunch and looked at all the old Catalina Islanders that were published when he was in HIgh School. Many of the memories came back to him and a smile arose from a previously expressionless face. He pointed to many things and talked about them. It was a precious few moments that Alzheimers hadn't stolen away from him yet. My husband and I along with another classmate, Carl Hammer were so happy to be a part of that. Rest in peace, our dear friend with your beloved Patsy. We look to meet again one day as I promised Patsy we would 8 years ago.

Edgar Taylor and I were classmates and close friends at Avalon High School on Catalina Island from…Read More 1942-1946. Ed was one of the school's most distinguished students then and in subsequent years, both academically and as a participant in various athletic programs. Ed was an excellent tennis competitor winning the school championship in 1946, a knowledgeable sports authority and both managed and played on the Avalon Lancer basketball and softball teams that competed successfully against US Army, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard teams from units stationed on the island during those World War Two years. Ed served as Student Body President, the AHS Representative to California Boy's State and was a National Merit Scholar. Our career paths diverged as Ed went on to Stanford University and then into the law profession and I spun off to the US Naval Academy via the University of Washington. When I returned to the island with my wife Pauline in 1978 we rendezvoused with Ed and his lovely wife Patsy. Over the intervening years we enjoyed a close relationship at Avalon High School "No Class" Reunions and visiting Patsy and Ed in Los Gatos.
Ed will be long remembered and sorely missed by his numerous friends and associates. He was truly a gentleman and gentle man.
