If you use the developers own cost figures, and the 550,000 square feet costs $228,500,000 to build…Read More the offices and the garage - that would mean there is a property improvement tax of $2,285,000 in the first year. Of that, LGUSD will get roughly $502,700 and the LGSUHSD, roughly $411,300. Your number seems to be about $486,000 overstated. Can you tell us how you are coming up with $1,400,000? I did not include the property tax as we get that even if nothing is done and the property stays as it is.

There are other parts of Los Gatos ready to be developed into office space also, including the North…Read More 40. We do not need to toss out the General Plan and all the building guidelines to retain good companies. Albright can be developed into a new and wonderful office park without having 4 buildings each at 65 feet tall. There is room to compromise. A horrible precedent would be set if this project goes forward without modification. Los Gatos can retain its small-town charm and still embrace the future. It just requires some give-and-take all around.

chasing away netflix is pure idiocy.
that land is commercial. it will be an office for someone now…Read More or someone later. do you want nice new offices for a growing world class company, or would you rather keep the dilapidated strcutures there now. one way or another, someone is eventually going to occupy that lot in its current zoning.
netflix is a huge benefit to our community that is as benign as it gets. do they belch fumes into the air or dump crap into streams? many towns have to live with that if they want revenue. most netflix workers reverse commute from the peninsula, so they aren't contributing to your morning commute out of town. this is a world-class company that is about as low-impact as you can get in 2013 and some people still aren't happy. without netflix, all we have are restaurants and hair salons.
i hear griping about "small town character"....huh? the bay area is unbroken sea of urbanization from benicia to gilroy to san francisco. if you want a small town, you have two choices: (1) nebraska or (2) get a time machine back to 1975. people, the bay area is not a retirement community. try auburn.
and no, i don't work at netflix or even use their service, but i love that los gatos has a world-class company in our borders that is a huge contributor to our tax base.

Hi Bob, I hear you. It's going to take some time before our readers get really comfortable with this…Read More new design. It would be nice if there were a provision in the final ruling that says PG&E is not allowed to…Read More recoup the fine money by raising rates. Customers are going to end up being punished for PG&E's negligence, because of corporate greed. What a world.
Larry Arzie May 8, 2013 at 03:43 pm
We could make the fine higher and put them into receivership, then have the State take over this…Read More highly profitable company. Oops, but then there will never be any infrastructure upgrade. Sort of what Los Gatos did with our Sewer System. We sold it to the County after years of letting it fall into disrepair. Now it is costing us on our property tax bills. Government often make a mess of things. P.G.E. is being allowed to fix it's decades old problems, write it off as capital improvements and I bet still make a handsome profit for years. Nationalizing is sounding better.

As anyone can see, these proposed buildings will be very tall, probably twice as tall as what is…Read More already there. Anyone driving by will see them. Most of the trees will be cut down. Even though the traffic study concluded that there would not be significantly more traffic, I don't buy it. If you drive by this area on Winchester blvd heading towards highway 17 or downtown Los Gatos around 4:30 or 5pm you will see long lines of cars already, especially on Fridays. Can you imagine what it will be like with 1,000 or so more cars? I urge everyone to think long about this, go look at the sight, then contact the town council. It is good to have the revenue but this project is so large and extreme. Maybe if they kept the buildings at 2 story, 30 ft instead of 80 ft tall, eliminated the giant parking structure, cut the number of office buildings in half with more affordable quality housing, kept most of the trees it may be okay, It may even be better to just leave as is or just renovate and improve the existing buildings, or even make a city park out of this place. It really is a nice woodsy area, the kind of place that Los Gatos is known for, as the gateway to the redwoods and beach. I think its much better to be known for this than just another bedroom community or part of San Jose with all of its massive over development. Other wise I don't think it is a good idea for the town of Los Gatos residents, or its future and and we will probably all regret it later.
Maria Ristow April 5, 2013 at 11:15 pm
The cherry pickers give a vague clue to the height of the buildings, but not the mass. Maybe it's…Read More not feasible, but the same orange mesh that neighborhood remodels are required to use would be very helpful. I have walked, biked, and driven past the project, and it's difficult to imagine the full impact. The cherry pickers can be blocked by trees at certain angles-- the possible future buildings will not be. I imagine most people would be stunned by the proposed buildings.
Rick M April 5, 2013 at 10:21 pm
The Netflex project should not be allowed. Do we want Los Gatos to be just another part of San Jose…Read More with all of its industrial development and pollution? The proposed buildings are WAY too tall and will be a giant eyesore for everyone that sees them. In addition the building of industrial complexes in conjunction with residential communities is NOT a good way to do things. The industrial complexes never respect the privacy of the residents. We live in an apartment complex next to a business park and they are always making way too much noise and at illegal times. Gardeners, parking lot pavers, construction crews, delivery trucks are continually breaking the Los Gatos noise ordinance and disturbing the residents. For years the residents have called the police and dealt with the Los Gatos code compliance officers but this problem has never been resolved. In addition, anyone who has lived in Los Gatos for awhile sees nothing but development everywhere you look. It's great that our town is doing so well, but is that all that Los Gatos is about? When I first moved here I was very happy for all of the woodsy areas, the quiet and beautiful uniqueness of the area. It still is one of the nicest places in the bay area, but lets keep it that way. Net flex can build their new building in San Jose and stop bothering the good folks of Los Gatos.
I strongly urge the city to NOT approve this expansion. !

Now Borders is gone and…Read More everything is very corporate. There isn't very much

This is not going Green. A business like this has a huge carbon foot print to offset.
All lighting…Read More will need to be converted to LED and forget AC.
Leasing Solar system should be mandatory. Employee's should ride their bike to
work at least three days a week. The power used to make the clothes should also
be green. The clothes should also be 100% biodegradable. All shipping material
should be 100% recyclable. After the plastic bag ban, tennis shoes will be banned. Shoe manufactures are already working to make shoes out of hemp.
In the near future, I think a business owner will be able to purchase "Carbon Credits"
until these other items are fixed.
Let's not lower our standards just to LOOK like we are doing something.
Full implementation of Agenda 21 are coming soon. Start planning now!!

asking people to shop locally for sentimental reasons is a nonstarter. most commodity retail as you…Read More know it now will be gone in ten years...once amazon opens its same-day shipping facility in patterson, you will be able to order commodity goods at 10am and have them at your door at 2pm. no local merchant selling commodity goods can compete with that. restaurants and craft merchants can't be commoditized, they have a chance at survival.
as for domus...i tried to go in there once but the lady at the desk said you had to be seventy or older to enter (just kidding). i really don't see the nostalgia for that place, last i checked it was greeting cards and coffee mugs. time marches on.
