The Santa Clara County Fire Department serves the communities of Los Gatos, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and the county's unincorporated areas. It includes 16 fire stations, an administrative headquarters, a maintenance facility, five support facilities and more than 100 vehicles to cover approximately 100 square miles of land and a population of more than 210,000 residents. It has more than 265 employees, including firefighters and about 40 volunteer firefighters.

The department's chief is Kenneth L. Waldvogel, who's been serving in that position since 2006. He's been a firefighter since 1976 and joined the department in 1978.  The department's services include fire prevention, public education and fire suppression, fire investigation, EMS, rescue and special operations. Three of the department's offices are located in Los Gatos.
